All this intervention and the consequent dire results has left me convinced of one thing. If we just stopped panicking and let the virus run its course it will probably be over more quickly as will the economic suffering. Yes the virus is a serious thing but we've had far worse plagues in the course of human history and humans are still around.
All this market intervention wants me to scream - stop messing with it let the invisible hand do its job. It will all sort itself out quickly - there will be lots of economic discomfort for certain, but it will pass and we can then go about setting everything in order.
But that's a pipe dream- the screaming politicians would never allow it.
Hi It is a scary time. A highly regarded John Hopkins doctor was on cable news tonite predicting 1,000 deaths a day. You got me, but why is everything getting shut down? It is a horror show. Best Bill
1000 deaths per day as a percentage of 300,000,000 is not very much. We were probably close to that when MRSA (mefloquine resistant staph) was at its peak. Many of those deaths were from infections received in a hospital so the medical community kept a lid on that info. My own father being one of the victims.
My thesis remains the same. Panic sown by the press is creating over-reactions which are causing far more damage than the disease will.
